ESP (Emergency Standby Power) is the maximum power output available for variable load applications for the duration of a power outage, typically up to 200 hours per year. PRP (Prime Rated Power) is the power available for unlimited hours of operation at variable load, making it suitable for continuous use as a primary power source. For most backup applications, ESP ratings apply, while PRP is used when the generator serves as the main power supply.

Open Type gensets are designed for indoor installation or use within a dedicated generator room, offering easier access for maintenance and lower initial cost. Canopy Type (also known as silent or soundproof type) gensets are enclosed in a weatherproof, noise-reducing housing, making them suitable for outdoor installation or environments where noise reduction is required. The canopy enclosure typically results in a larger overall footprint.
